The HI 763100 is a digital conductivity electrode with a built-in temperature sensor. Compared to the amperometric design of other conductivity probes, the HI 763100 is a potentiometric probe with platinum sensors which allows for the possibility to measure high or low conductivity ranges using one probe. This electrode features an integrated microchip which stores calibration data, electrode type, and serial number. This probe features a 3.5 mm connector designed exclusively to be used with Hanna Instruments edge® Tablet Meters.

Built-in Microchip

The built-in microchip stores sensor type, serial number and calibration information including date, time, offset, slope, probe condition and buffers used. This information is automatically retrieved by edge® once the electrode is plugged in. The ability to transfer information allows for hot swapping of probes without having to re-calibrate. All pH measurements are performed within the electrode and transferred digitally to the meter. This overcomes any noise issues associated with the traditional high impedance analog measuring system. Electrical noise can be generated from a built-in temperature sensor and while working in a humid environment.

Potentiometric Measuring System

The four-ring potentiometric measuring system allows the measurement of a broad range of samples while minimizing the effects of polarization. The two outer rings apply and alternating voltage and induce a current loop in the solution, while the two inner rings measure the voltage drop induced by the current loops. This allows for a range of readings from very high to very low without changing electrodes.

Sleeve

The probe is surrounded by a chemically resistant plastic sleeve to maintain control external interferences from the sample. It also allows the current loop to be generated in a controlled area.

Internal Temperature Sensor

Since temperature is an important factor for measuring conductivity, a built in temperature sensor on the probe is very helpful. There is no need for an external temperature probe, so that measurements can be made easily. The coefficient used to correct for changes in temperature is β, which is expressed as a percentage of reading per degree of Celsius.
