COD Test Tube Heater - HI839800
HI839800 is a robust, 25 vial capacity thermoreactor for COD determination of industrial wastewater. The reactor has three stored and three programmable (custom) temperature programs.
The stored programs support analysis methods at:
• 170 °C (COD methods)
• 150 °C (COD methods, Iron Total, Phosphorus Acid
Hydrolyzable, Phosphorus Total methods)
• 105 °C (Chromium (VI) and Total, Nitrogen Total methods)
The HI839800 COD Test Tube Heater features two predefined temperature profiles: 150°C (302°F) and 105°C (221°F). Digestions for chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total phosphorus are conducted at 150°C, while total nitrogen digestions are conducted at 105°C.
The test tube heater automatically heats up to the set temperature and maintains it until the countdown timer has finished. Once the timer has ended, an audible beep sounds and the heating element turns off.
The outer casing of the HI839800 remains cool to the touch, even during a timed digestion. An optional laboratory safety shield and test tube cooling rack provide a complete setup for sample digestions.

A built-in countdown timer of up to 180 minutes allows users to easily set the required digestion time by pressing the up and down arrows. Once a time has been set and the heating element has reached a stable temperature, pressing the START button begins the digestion procedure. - Status Indicator Lights
Three LED lights are featured on the HI839800. A green LED indicates that the heater is powered on; a yellow LED indicates that the heater is actively heating to the set temperature; and a red LED indicates that the temperature is above 50°C, reminding the user that the aluminum heating element is hot. - Overheating Prevention
The HI839800 contains a thermal fuse that prevents overheating. If overheating occurs, the heater automatically shuts down and all LED indicator lights turn off. - Reference Temperature Well
In addition to the 25-vial capacity of the aluminum heating block, a small well is available for a temperature probe, allowing users to verify the heating block temperature. - Two Operating Modes
The HI839800 features two operating modes: idle and heating. Idle mode is the default mode in which the heater measures and displays the current temperature, target temperature, set reaction time, and an "idle" indicator. Heating mode is activated when the user presses the START button and continues while the heater is actively heating and during the countdown timer. - Continuous LCD Display
The block temperature is continuously displayed on the easy-to-read LCD display, even when there is no active temperature program running. All relevant information, including temperature, is easily visible during both idle and heating modes. - Error Messages
The display provides warning messages for problems including high or low temperature, hot surfaces, and heating system malfunctions.
